The Wangaratta High Hoodie

In recent months, students have been keenly advocating for and requesting a school hoodie. In response to this, and because we value student voice, we have been exploring options and designs for an official school hoodie as a new optional school uniform item. Student response to the model and design has been very positive.

A key issue for students is having uniform items for winter that are warm and comfortable. We recognise that there are limitations on our current offering, which often results in students being cold or out of school uniform.

We are keen to seek feedback and input from parents/carers and our staff team to inform the decision and way forward. Within the Department of Education schools, the School Council is responsible for the dress code and uniform items. The feedback collected in this process will further inform their deliberations.

We keenly seek your feedback below by Friday 9th of August. You are also welcome to contact me directly at the school.

The design

  • students have selected a hard-wearing and heavier-weight hoodie that they like the feel of. They report that it is quite soft on the inside.
  • it has the official school logo and name embroidered on the front left chest to match other uniform items
  • it has the schools name embroidered clearly on the back
  • single colour Wangaratta High School navy

Key points

  • the expected cost of the hoodie is $90
  • we believe it is a quality and durable item, and as it is embroidered (rather than printed), we expect the logos and school name to be long-lasting. This will facilitate families selling or exchanging them second hand
  • the colour and design would indicate that it will be easy to keep clean
  • note there will be forthcoming details announced by the Department about the implementation of the $400 in the School Saving Bonus. This bonus will be provided to all of our families ($400 per child) and can be used for uniform items
  • students in need (or with CSEF funding) will be eligible for a voucher or support from our Wellbeing team to obtain this uniform item (this applies to all uniform items)

Usage

  • it is intended to be an optional uniform item. Students may continue to wear existing winter jackets and jumpers
  • it can be worn at all times at school, on school excursions and when travelling to and from school (ie no limitations)
